History

Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) was funded in 1968 and is a federal public institution located in the state of Sao Paulo. Currently, it is composed by four campuses, and its main headquarter is based at the town of São Carlos, which is 235 km far from the capital of the State – São Paulo. In 2009, the very first undergraduate Gerontology course offered by a federal public institution was implemented, and in 2012 the first Gerontology Academic Department of the country was created.

In 2016, the Graduate Program in Gerontology (PPGGero) was accredited by CAPES. It is the fifth Graduate Program in Gerontology with Master’s degree course in São Paulo State and the third offered by a public university.
